The fruit for this 100% estate grown wine was whole-bunch pressed, settled, and racked into second and third-use French oak barrels for wild ferment and spent 18-months in  élevage on lees. Filtered prior to being estate bottled on 3 May 2023

Beautiful golden straw colour with aromas of baked apple, fig, orange flower, clover honey, almond, vanilla, pastry dough, citrus peel and dried hay.  The palate continues with delightful lavender crémé brulée, lemon, ripe melon, pear, with refreshing acidity and a pleasing drying finish of light wood tannins, clove and cracked black pepper.

Independent Wine Reviews

David Lawrason, Wine Align, 2021 Chardonnay (91 points): This is a small lot (three barrel) estate chardonnay aged 18 months in used French oak. The nose is fairly generous and quite complex with pear, nougat, some reductive flint, butterscotch and toast. It is medium weight, quite glycerol, sweet-edged and warm. Lots of substance and depth here. Excellent length. (Tasted May 2024)

Michael Godel, Wine Align 2021 Chardonnay (91 points): Classic styling for chardonnay, from a winemaking perspective more so than the viognier and also the reds in the Black Bank portfolio. Neither
reductive nor oxidative, reactive nor submissive, obsequious nor domineering. No risks taken, nor aversions neither. Buttery yet with good acids, natural sweetness and also wood spice. Right there in that space between, still a wine for its makers to continue figuring out, in terms of wishes and direction. For now a glass in hand is a good one. Drink 2024-2026. Tasted May 2024. Value Rating: 5-stars
